Oooohhh shit! It’s that time of year again! The trees are budding, birds are chirping, the people are rising, and Mayday is upon us. Every year, May 1st is celebrated in most parts of the world as International Workers’ Day. It’s a day to celebrate not only labour struggles, but all fights against oppression and ecocide. In many cities, there are Mayday protests and celebrations of all kinds, so wherever you are, find your nearest one, get out there in the streets, and STRIKE!

This week on the podcast, we welcome back our regular collaborator, co-conspirator, and friend, Frank of Submedia! As usual, Frank comes loaded with a wicked “fuck work” themed playlist of Mayday tunes, plus we hear an interview he did recently with Fannie and Brice from the Printemps 2015 committee in Montreal. This committee has been behind many of the amazing student strikes and actions in Quebec over the last few weeks, and they’re also gearing up for some pretty major Mayday stuff. Check ’em out! We’re back for another weekly podcast of The Rebel Beat! On this edition, it’s our monthly collaboration with the mighty Submedia, who are bringing anarchist video badassery to new levels.

March 15th is coming up, which is the International Day Against Police Brutality. The day was actually started back in 1997 by the Collective Opposed to Police Brutality in Montreal, as well as the Black Flag anarchist group in Switzerland. Since then, it has been an occasion for survivors and families of victims of police brutality, anarchists, anti-capitalists, and other rebels to manifest their resistance to the pigs. This week, we’re especially excited to launch our monthly collaboration with Submedia.TV! For those of you who don’t know Submedia, they’re an anarchist video collective who just celebrated their 10-year anniversary! They put out a regular web TV show called “It’s the End of the World as we Know It”, and it’s always chalk-full of amazing riot-inspiring tunes. So if you’re a fan of the show, you’re gonna love this episode of The Rebel Beat. And if you’re not already a fan, then you’re in for a radical musical treat! Check out the latest episode of Submedia’s show here.

As part of our Black History Month series, we’re still gonna be looking at the Ferguson uprising and the #BlackLivesMatter movement. We’re gonna be airing an interview with the one and only Anarchist Panther, Ashanti Alston. Ashanti is an amazing speaker, former member of the Black Panther Party, and former political prisoner of the Black Liberation Army. Here’s a little taste of Ashanti Alston in his own words.
