So as you can tell, this is not part of the Rebel Beat’s regular programming. Unfortunately I won’t be putting out an episode of the podcast in April. I’m traveling through western Canada, and don’t have much time to do any interviews or editing.
But I’m pretty excited to share this radio documentary with you that I just finished working on with my friend David from the Treyf podcast . The doc aired on CBC’s The Doc Project, and looks at the stories of refugees fleeing Donald Trump’s America, and the people who want to help them get into Canada. Hope you enjoy, and go here for more info:
Boom! Welcome back with another edition of The Rebel Beat podcast, and this one is a HUGE one for us. Sadly, this episode marks the end of The Rebel Beat as a weekly show at the mighty CKUT radio in Montreal. It’s been a beautiful 10-year run for me doing live radio on Wednesday nights at CKUT, and I’ve finally decided to give it up so that I can make time for other things in life.
BUT FEAR NOT! This is far from being the end for The Rebel Beat! As you’ll hear in this podcast, we’re thrilled to announce that we’re teaming up with Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Ryan Harvey, and the whole family at Firebrand Records to keep The Rebel Beat going as a monthly Firebrand podcast!
So even though the show will only be coming out once per month, and might be a bit shorter than 2 hours, we’ll still be bringing you all the amazing interviews and music from revolutionary musicians that you’ve come to expect.
Welcome back to another weekly podcast of The Rebel Beat! This week, we are thrilled to bring you one of the fiercest poetic voices of the Palestinian liberation movement – Rafeef Ziadah. Rafeef is a Palestinian refugee who has committed her life’s work to the liberation of her people. She is a leading organizer in the global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israeli apartheid.
I actually met Rafeef for the first time ever at the conference to launch the BDS movement in Canada in Toronto in 2006. She is a powerful and energetic orator, which usually makes for a badass organizer.
On top of her day-to-day activism, Rafeef is also an amazing poet and spoken word artist. She recently released her second full-length album, “We Teach Life“, which once again beautifully combines her political poetry with music. On this album, she teamed up with Australian-Palestinian musician Phil Monsour. The result is a collection of poetry that touches on migration, emotion, colonialism, and of course, Palestine. Check it out and buy the album through CD Baby! We caught up with Rafeef from her home in London, England, to tell us all about it. Continue reading →
Welcome back to another edition of The Rebel Beat, bringing you class war on the dance floor every week!
On this edition, our monthly collaboration with Submedia.TV is back fuckin’ on! Frank was back at the controls with us to bring us amazing sets of music – we would expect no less from our favourite purveyors of global anarchist revolt and riot porn videos. Plus, we featured an interview with a Turkish anarchist, El Cuchillo, on the situation in Rojava, a liberated Kurdish territory in northern Syria. To see the Submedia video featuring that interview, head on over here. Continue reading →
