Welcome back to another weekly podcast of The Rebel Beat! This week, we are thrilled to bring you one of the fiercest poetic voices of the Palestinian liberation movement – Rafeef Ziadah. Rafeef is a Palestinian refugee who has committed her life’s work to the liberation of her people. She is a leading organizer in the global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israeli apartheid.
I actually met Rafeef for the first time ever at the conference to launch the BDS movement in Canada in Toronto in 2006. She is a powerful and energetic orator, which usually makes for a badass organizer.
On top of her day-to-day activism, Rafeef is also an amazing poet and spoken word artist. She recently released her second full-length album, “We Teach Life“, which once again beautifully combines her political poetry with music. On this album, she teamed up with Australian-Palestinian musician Phil Monsour. The result is a collection of poetry that touches on migration, emotion, colonialism, and of course, Palestine. Check it out and buy the album through CD Baby! We caught up with Rafeef from her home in London, England, to tell us all about it. Continue reading
