Welcome back to another weekly podcast of The Rebel Beat! Our apologies it’s been over a week since the last podcast came out, but we’ve got a few more ready to be released ASAP!

This week, we bring you an amazing interview with the bombastically radical MC of The Coup, Boots Riley, done by the equally bombastic Dave Zirin of Edge of Sports. The interview was recorded at the Politics and Prose bookshop in Washington, DC, and boots_cover_full_rnd17-frontdistributed by the ever-amazing Making Contact radio program. A fascinating and exciting listen. Do be sure to check out Boots’ recently-published book “Tell Homeland Security – We are the Bomb“.

Plus, as always, tons of great music here, spanning afrobeat, hip-hop, and punk rock, all with that class war edge.

Enjoy! Continue reading

Welcome back for another weekly edition of The Rebel Beat! This week it’s our favourite time of the month, that time when Frank from Sumedia.tv comes in to studio to share what’s been going down on his TV show, and play some wicked riotous tunes.

This week, we have an interview with Austin, TX-based anarchist organizer and author Scott Crow, talking about the shit-show that is the US election circus. We also talked about recent global anti-fascist and feminist actions against Pegida and Roosh V (a so-called “Pick-Up Artists” who supports the legalization of rape). And, because the WHOLE WORLD was talking about it, we threw in a bit of Super Bowl 50 commentary. But don’t worry, just a bit 😉

And of course, plenty of revolutionary music. See the amazing playlist below! Continue reading

Welcome back to another weekly edition of The Rebel Beat! Well, this week marks exactly 1 year that we’ve been producing this radio show at CKUT. So… happy fuckin’ birthday to us! Let’s give a HUGE shout-out to all the amazing bands, artists, and activists we’ve had on the show, as well as to our mothership, CKUT – truly the best community radio station on the planet.

Getting down to business, February is of course Black History Month. Here at the Rebel Beat, we recognize the complexity of this month, being only a month, and how reductive that can be. Yet at the same time, we think it’s an important opportunity to highlight some key ongoing and historical trends in Black community resistance and art. Continue reading
