Hi! And welcome back to another weekly podcast of The Rebel Beat!

Our special guest on the podcast this week is an amazing artist – Cree-Abenaki DJ/producer Kzo. Kzo (aka. Pakesso Mukash) hails from Cree territory in northern so-called “Quebec”, around the James Bay region. He got his musical break playing songs rebelling against development and destruction of Indigenous lands with the popular Cree rock group Ceramony.

But when Ceramony decided to take a break last year, Pakesso needed to keep his musical creative juices flowing, and so he decided to turn towards electronic music, EDM, and dubstep under his new moniker Kzo. The result is a series of powerful remixes and compositions (which will eventually form his first forthcoming album) which draw heavily on Indigenous genres, and sample a variety of artists from Tanya Tagaq to Chilean Mapuche bands to Iron Maiden. You can find more of Kzo’s work on his Soundcloud page.

We also bring you new tunes this week from Narcy, Ant Loc, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and more!

And as always you can subscribe to our podcast! Click here for iTunes, and here for other platforms.

Until next week, keep it rebel!
